On May 07 I. Cuzminih, “I.Creanga” presented a seminar with the topic “Basics in Literary Analysis”. The participants got acquainted with such notions as setting, plot, minor and major characters, point of view, plot order, etc. they read a text by Guy de Maupassant “Necklace” and analyzed it taking into account their fresh knowledge. Although the author wrote the story centuries ago, the problems raised in it are still actual today and the participants were engaged in a lively debate over the author’s message. There were 6 participants during the presentation.
On May 14 I. Cuzminih, “I.Creanga” presented the topic “Will TV oust Books”which is one of the conversational topics included in the State Exam in Pedagogical university. There were 7 school teachers present at the seminar. The teachers highly appreciated the seminar, one of them in their feedback even wrote: “Didn’t think that speaking about reading can be so interesting.” Teachers came to the conclusion that “nothing that inspires people will disappear.”
On the 21st of May senior lecture from modern languages department, Olga Smochin presented "A Friend in Need". There were 11 participants at the seminar. All the participants gave the highest appreciation for the usefulness and preparation of the seminar. Among the most useful information the teachers specified: theme, ideas, message of the analyzed text; info about plot structure; the text, power point presentation, handouts; the elements of fiction as a system; theory; everything.
On May 22nd Daniela Munca from ACCELS presented “Interactive Strategies for Teaching Listening and Video in the Classroom.” There were 6 participants at the seminar. Daniela Munca shared activities that she herself uses in day by day teaching and that really work. The participants were encouraged to challenge their students to be actively involved in the course of the lesson. They got handouts with useful web sites, list of possible activities with video and even managed to practice all the activities themselves during the workshop.
On May 28th was the last seminar in 2008-2009 academic year. The seminar was presented by Galina Plescenco, a senior lecturer from Ion Creanga University, “Dialogic Peculiarities in English.” The participants were presented different types of dialogues in English, which might be useful when analyzing a piece of literary work.
During the school year 2007 - 2008 every Thursday at 4 p. m. we organised seminars for teachers of English. All the materials used during the seminar are published on-line, so if you were not able to come at our seminar when it was planned but are interested in the topic, you can download all the materials for free and use them at your lessons.
