Christmas Masquerade 2008

The Christmas Masquerade at the ETRC started at 4 p.m. on December 27th.
The single condition of being admitted to the party was coming in a mask or costume. The teachers observed the rules and everyone came prepared.
The hosts – a gypsy and a dog – welcomed the comers.

We began by sharing Christmas and New year traditions in our families. For many of us New Year remains a traditional family holiday. For Americans Christmas is considered to be the big holiday, not the New Year. In Albania at New Year day people become insane: everyone makes fireworks; there is so much smoke that you can hardly see in front of you.

The next activity was creating fur-trees and Santas out of colored paper. All you need for this activity is the sample, which you can find in the Internet, scissors, glue and persistence!

When the hand crafts were made we had to invent the Christmas story.
For this activity we made our guests move around.
They had to find words hidden in different places in the room and outside it – in the corridor, above the doors of the lift, following the instructions on paper.
 Example
To find your words you’ll have to follow the instructions:

  • Open the fridge
  • Have you already chosen the menu for your holiday table? In MENU Magazine on p.51 there is a recipe of pork tenderloin and something you are looking for!
  • How many chairs on wheels can you find in the room? One is special!

The words were taken at random, and we tried to choose words that are not connected to Christmas vocabulary at all, such as: to get an injection, to die one’s hair, to keep to a diet, volcano eruption, salad fork, Wow!, Yes, I agree, etc.  We selected nouns, adjectives, verbs and funny expressions and interjections.

ZORRO

ALIENS

Misterious

BEAR

While eating pies everyone had the opportunity to take the prediction for the coming year out of the “magical box”. The predictions were made in a very simple way – you just open for instance Dictionary of idioms and select some funny sentences. And with your proper lucky hand you may select your destiny!
Example
Your prediction:
You may have been wrong but you did what you did according to your own lights. It’s well and good that you’re here on time. I was afraid you’d be late again.
Your prediction:
Borrowing can be the same as stealing. If the owner doesn’t know what you have borrowed; it amounts to the same thing. And remember you’re looking for trouble if you ask the boss for a raise. Happy holidays!
Your prediction:
The old head of the company was elbowed out of office by a young vice president. They tried to elbow me out, but I held on to what was mine.
Please feed the kitty – make a contribution to help sick children! Joyous holidays!
